Depending on your age, it’s likely that you can remember riding a bike often without the thought of ever wearing a helmet. In fact, I don’t even recall if they had helmets when I was young! Over the years we have become very acquainted with the real dangers of riding a bike without a helmet and in many jurisdictions it’s a law for anyone under 18 to wear one when riding a bike. This is for very good reason as studies have shown that wearing a helmet can reduce the risk of a head injury if you happen to get into an accident on a bicycle.
It’s such a simple thing, to wear a bike helmet, but often many people just don’t think to strap on a helmet. While you may think that you are a competent rider and that you won’t get into an accident, the truth is, if you ride often you do stand the chance of getting into an accident at some point in time.
The implications of getting in an accident without a helmet on are not good. Many people have suffered serious brain damage from not wearing one. Even if you feel confident riding a bike, what if you were hit from behind or you hit a bump that you did not see? Something like this could cause you to lose balance and fall to the ground. If your head were to hit the pavement without protection, there’s a good chance that you could suffer brain damage. This injury could be a concussion or something more severe that limits your ability to walk, talk and live in independence. It seems silly to think that just because bike helmets don’t always look “cool” that people would risk losing their job and their freedom, just to ride with the wind blowing through their hair.

Luftbefeuchter “Phobos” TechGalerie: Macht Schluss mit trockener Raumluft und sorgt für ein gesundes Klima. Gerät in schickem italienischen Design.

For an online business that is trying to grow, the notion of adding credit card processing is no longer just a matter of choosing to get a benefit or standing pat. And the reason for this can be traced to modern consumer attitudes.
There have been numerous e-retailing studies that have shown that having merchant account services benefits Web-based businesses in several ways. It brings more traffic and repeat business to a site. And it drives additional sales and profits, as people shopping online with their credit card in hand tend to buy additional items, or are susceptible to making impulse buys.
All those reasons lead some people doing business over the internet to think that while card acceptance may be a good thing, if they don’t go down that path they will still be in good enough shape. But other trends indicate this can be a dangerous strategy.
There is an axiom in business that if you’re standing still, you’re going to fall behind. The notion is that with business conditions changing and evolving, any person who chooses to tread water in a place they consider “safe” is actually going to be left behind as the competition moves ahead. And that’s the case with the down side of not being set up to accept credit cards.
First, consumers today are getting more used to shopping with their cards. While they certainly aware of identity theft and fraud issues, they like the convenience of being able to close a transaction quickly using their plastic. Not to mention taking advantage of the additional buyer’s protection that comes with some credit card programs.
Second, more and more consumers have grown up doing their everyday business without using cash. Whether it’s their credit card, or a debit connected to VISA or MasterCard, they are at home with using their card for everything from buying a new suit to a fast-food lunch. These people have “voted” for a cashless lifestyle, and in doing so they expect the vendors they shop on a regular basis to be ready. In other words, their message to any business is that while you may have the store, we control what goes into the cash register.
And finally, because they do operate cashless, they have gone 180 degrees of their baby-boom counterparts who were once wary of credit cards. Today’s consumer now is suspicious of any company that does not accept credit cards. And with the number of people and entities doing business on the internet, well, there’s just far too much competition. If a consumer isn’t happy with the way a certain site does business they can find three or four competitors with few clicks of their mouse. Taking their business elsewhere now takes a matter of second, as opposed to the days of having to drive across town.
And the great news is that merchant account services companies have made it easier than ever before to apply for card services. So when it comes to ecommerce payments solutions are your standing still/falling back? If so, for goodness sake, why?

Founded in 1998 and formally known as Team home – Jack & Jones, the newly re-named Team Saxo Bank are renowned as one of the most successful professional cycling teams in the world. The highly skilled team primarily from Denmark, are managed by Riis cycling and owned by the CEO of the company and former Tour de France Champion, Bjarne Riis.
Team home – Jack & Jones started with 11 riders, a mixture of previously successful professionals and first-time competitors. They spent their first season riding in the 2nd Division however, moved up to the UCI ProTour (previously the 1st Division) in 2000. Notably their most successful y season was in 1999 with 26 UCI wins, this allowed them to be promoted to the first division.
With the promotion came a further name change with the arrival of a new sponsor, Memory Card A/S in 2000. This was the first year the team took part in the Tour de France, and although not as successful as the previous year, contributed toward the heightened calibre of the team. The team struggled to build upon the success of the 1999 season, until 2005 when the team now known as Team CSC, won the UCI ProTour’s team classification. From here the team enjoyed a concession of successes, winning the UCI ProTour in both 2006 and 2007 and also the CQ Team Rankings 2005-2008.
The 2008 season saw some major changes in both sponsorship and team members. Riis cycling declared Saxo Bank as the new major sponsor so the team entered the Tour de France as Team CSC Saxo Bank with Carlos Sastre taking an early lead and later winning the L’Alpe D’Huez helping the team to again take the Team Classification.
This season again holds high hopes for the team now known as Team Saxo Bank, with their newest sponsorship Specialized allowing them to ride the prestigious Specialized bikes. The now 25 strong team, ranging from 21-38 years old have a wealth of experience when it comes to specialized cycling and hope to continue their success in 2010 with an aim to win the Tour de France once more.
